Field Notes

The Greek Revival house was built in ca. 1830 by Elishama Brandegee, Jr., along with its neighbor at 850 Worthington Ridge, also in the Greek Revival style. In the nineteenth century there was a mulberry orchard behind both houses which was used to feed silk worms. The Brandegees opened the Brandegee Thread Factory in East Berlin. Elishama Sr. was a Revolutionary soldier and a merchant who engaged in trade with the West Indies. Elishama Jr. owned a general merchandise store on Worthington Ridge, which was called Berlin Street at the time. Contributing resource in the Worthington Ridge Historic District.
